I hope you've had a good summer. For many people
I know it's been quite stressful. Have you noticed that projects
have been slow to get off the ground recently? That people have been
ambivalent? Changing their minds? Irritated?
Have you had a bad cold or are feeling such things as sadness and
loss, disappointment, exhaustion, burnout, physical and /or emotional
pain, valuelessness?
Problems are Wake Up Calls
When we are about to take the next step
forward in our lives we can encounter accidents, a serious illness
or a fight. The experience of a
loss is especially a call for a new birth. The bigger the problem
the closer we are to making a giant step forward toward our
purpose. The ego is very inventive. It gets cleverer and tricks
us. The more we feel like giving up, resigning, the more we are
resisting our birth! I use the analogy of a pregnant woman in
labour when the contractions stop. She can think its time to
go home, in fact its a pause before the final big push.
One theme I've been aware of is indecision
and delay
As the first quote above states, it can be tragic to delay. Delay
in taking action, delay in speaking what needs to be said, delay
in saying 'I love you', 'I'm sorry' or 'Will you forgive me?'. Delay
in committing.
Procrastination is the thief of time. The ego loves delay. It loves
excuses and reasons why it's better to stay still than to move. (The
ego is that small part of us that believes in keeping things the
way they are.) So I'd like you to become conscious of the excuses
you have.
Giving Up
There is a kind of death which is called death temptation (either
real or symbolic) which is a form of reaction to disappointment,
a fight or curse against life. This form of death becomes a kind
of power struggle in which you are consciously or subconsciously
drawn toward self- destruction. You feel that the only thing which
would truly end the pain or exhaustion you are experiencing is
death. But in fact when you have a death temptation it is a chance
to look at your circumstances and experience a rebirth although,
because of the conflict you are in, you may think that there is
no way out. Actually, there are many ways out, and you are being
asked to be willing to change and have a rebirth in your life.
Conflict occurs when two parts of your mind are moving in different
directions. One part may be projected on to someone, some group,
or the situation outside you. The other part of your mind you identify
with feels stuck. This can turn into an unlivable situation - but
this is only because you are unwilling to let go of something and
to change.
So, the key out of this is the willingness
to have a new birth in your life, which comes about by truly
choosing life.
In this new birth, you need to acknowledge that life can begin
again (springtime follows every winter) but you must be willing
to experience it. When you are faced with a death temptation, willingness,
letting go, choice, rebirth, forgiveness and self-forgiveness are
the key healing concepts. Through your willingness, and by asking
for help from your Higher Mind, you can bring about the rebirth
easily, and with grace.
Imagine you could help the whole world and save time, money and
suffering by choosing rebirth rather than death? Be willing to
allow yourself and the situation to change, perhaps drastically.
Don't forget that even 'impossible' situations can be answered
by miracles. Your new birth is as far away as your sincere choice
for it.
Our change is our cure
If we stay where we are, we begin to turn in an unchanging or death
direction. If we keep doing what we've been doing, we'll just
have more of what we already have. Transformation is called for.
The problem signifies that we can't get there from here. The
only solution is to change. Our willingness to change allows
change to begin to occur within us and unfold around us. Our
willingness to change says 'Yes!' to life. It allows the situation
to transform and takes us to a new level. Today, our willingness
will naturally and easily change us, and the size of the problem
will reflect the size of the shift being offered.
EXERCISE
Imagine you are at a crossroads. One of the choices
facing you will take you forward in a whole new direction, the
other circles back until you are at the same crossroads again,
a few years from now. To take the new way you are called
upon to be a leader; that is to make a new choice to take the new
way. When you do say Yes! to this new direction, Yes! to life and
Yes! to your higher mind, you may experience a period of disruption. It
is important to remember that this is just the birth process, which
is needed to complete the change. Don't stop here; trust
the process and you will continue moving through this place until
you've reached a new plateau in your life.
My Prophetic Dream
Twelve years ago I had left my old profession
as Art Director and was learning astrology. I was at a crossroads
in my life. What to do next? I had a very prophetic dream.
In it I was carrying a very heavy bag and stood at the side
of a river, it was a torrent and seemed impossible to cross.
On the left I saw a bridge, the obvious way to go. In front
of me was a man, an astrologer who offered to carry my bag.
I went with him (he was gorgeous, who wouldn't!) and as he
led me forward the bridge collapsed and fell into the stormy
water. As we stepped into the water it became shallow and calm
and we crossed with ease. Needless to say I followed the path
of being an astrologer.
Changing our mind
Resistance comes from fear, fear of change and fear of the future.
The fear is that we think the future will be like the past. To
understand the Law of Attraction imagine you have a Magic Genie
that says 'Your Wish is My Command'. What we wish for invariably
comes true! Unfortunately we tend to have more negative thoughts
than positive ones. If you catch yourself thinking about having
a cold or an accident, cancel the thought immediately. Say 'Cancel,
cancel, cancel' three times. One of the biggest tests of our
lives is to learn to master our thoughts.
And in doing so we can change our future.

DO YOU HAVE RESISTANCE STARTING A TASK? Practical Tip:
the 'ten minute method'
Start the task to which you have an aversion with the proviso that
you are free to stop after ten minutes. Much of the time just starting the task
relieves sufficient anxiety to allow the task's completion.
I recommend 'The War of Art' by Steven Pressfield as an
excellent book on overcoming resistance. This is especially
good if you're a writer or creative person.
